Chicago Scene
I feel lucky to be part of the Chicago scene and to have met so many amazing people. What started as opening for DJs, playing alongside them, and sending tracks back and forth has turned into real friendships and family.
I don’t view other DJs as competition. I think any DJ with a unique sound and style can make their own path.
That does bring up the question, what makes me different?
For me, it’s my transitions. I love doing blends with cool layering where both tracks still come through strong. Mixing outro to intro works and it’s clean, but it can get boring after a while. I try to create exciting moments with unexpected blends that catch you off guard but don’t throw you off.
That same idea carries into my production. I don’t want to copy other people’s styles. I want to give people something new while keeping elements they recognize. Unexpected drops, cool ear candy, fun switch-ups. Those little details go a long way.
I also think my age makes me stand out. I’m 22. A lot of DJs playing clubs are mid to late 20s or early 30s. That can work for me and against me. Some older DJs and promoters might not take me as seriously. But the younger crowd is starting to take over clubs, and I represent them. I’ve been building a community of people my age, and that creates real excitement when I play.
I really believe finding what makes you unique is key for artists to build a real brand and cut through the noise.
